Josh Franklin - gone fishin!
This week's latest episode had the whole SJL crew discussing a wild range of topics with Josh Franklin. We record episodes and then schedule them as it makes sense to what the guest has going on and what's going in the world. After recording with Josh, he announced his early retirement from BCSP and that his next adventure was a lot of fishing and time with family. It makes me listen to the episode in a whole different way, and take to heart that he categorized podcasts as mentoring.
There's a lot to take notes on from the episode, but here are the notes I took while we recorded...
Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by David Epstein
Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday
Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin
"RedBeard the Random"
We should all pursue mentoring or being mentored
Communication must point to value: either communicate to someone that they are valued, or bring/increase value for them in some way
In a safety job search, read the job ad carefully to understand how the company is communicating/telegraphing how they value safety and the role of a safety pro
What did you take away from this episode? We'd love to hear from you through reviews of the podcast, and comments on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Let's keep the conversation going!
